MOJACAR AREA - A FILM SET SCENARY

Nature and the landscape in the Mojacar area are truly outstanding. Its exotic beauty is reminiscent of faraway places and not without cause - films like Lawrence of Arabia, Treasure Island and Indiana Jones have been filmed in its surroundings. In this quiet corner of Mediterranean Spain, you can still find unspoilt beaches and the area benefits from development control that ensures that the mistakes found in other Spanish coastal areas are avoided.
All this makes it an ideal base for those who seek the calm and tranquillity which is on offer after summer comes to an end and the beaches empty. It is then that you can shake off another cold winter and take advantage of the delights of the different winter that awaits you here. So as winter draws in and rain, snow and cold threaten, this attractive respite full of sunshine and tranquillity awaits – take a winter break in Mojacar.

LANDSCAPES

To the north, at the end of Sierra Cabrera Mountains, is found the old Moorish village of Mojacar. Its small, white-painted houses perched on the top of the hill, with views of the landscape, catch the eye of the observer in clear contrast with the wide planes, sand beaches and golf courses appearing around typical Andalusian villages. The beaches at Mojacar and Vera extends 28 Km all along the coast to the South West and below Sierra Cabrera Mountains and the coast road has a different scene around every curve - picturesque spots and magnificent sea views – so that you will soon be wondering what other surprises lie in store.
As you enter the Nature Reserve of Cabo de Gata, the coastline becomes even wilder and untouched with an infinite number of small beaches and bays, where the only possible access is to leave your car and arrive by foot. Nature here is at its richest, despite the initial appearance to the contrary, and there is an abundance of natural resources to be discovered. Exploring the hills and mountain ranges using the old tracks and paths offers one of the best ways of getting to know Mojacar area and its lesser-visited corners.

CULTURE
Mojacar and Vera, have a very long history and has been populated by many different cultures over the centuries. Moorish culture remains very much in evidence in the white painted houses, architectural arches and cupolas and festive events; thousand year old towers, castles and alcazabas are silhouetted against the landscape, hills and mountain ranges and views of palm trees and chumberas provide a delightful contrast with the blend of blues and whites of the villages, sky and sea - one can easily be transported in the imagination to other exotic and far away countries.
The cuisine is simple yet distinctive. Its mixture of old traditions with an original and noticeable Arab influence has resulted in a delightful combination. As well as the simple and giant prawn, there is a wealth of fish, large and small, to be tried from the Mediterranean - fried or just cooked on the hot-plate with a little pinch of salt and olive oil, to bring out the full quality and flavour of these marine delicacies. Or, if you prefer cuisines from other countries, you can choose from the 150 restaurants in Mojacar area, including English, French, Italian, or Mexican.
